Powell and Jones Combine for 48 points, Lead Goldey-Beacom Over Molloy 94-86

The  Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team earned its sixth win of the season on Tuesday with a 94-86 victory over the Molloy University Lions.

Sophomore guard Tre Powell led the team in scoring in the win, with 27 points.

Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were sophomore guard Brian Blanchet (12), Junior guard/forward Emarquis Jones(21), and junior guard Elisha Brown (10).

Jones also had quick hands in this game by getting six steals.

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (26-18), fast break points (23-16), bench points (22-20), turnovers (16-22), and steals (15-7).

GBC also outshot the Cougars from the three-point line, with the team shooting 36.4%(12-33) and Molloy shooting 33.3%(8-24).

Goldey-Beacom trails by one at the end of the first half.

The game started with Molloy jumping out to a 15-8 edge with 14:21 remaining in the opening half.

GBC struck back by dashing off on a 14-4 run to grab a 22-19 advantage with 10:07 left in the first half.   Emarquis Jones and Tre Powell led the charge, scoring nine of the 14 points. Powell also had two steals during that time.

In the next three minutes, the Lions outscored the Lightning 13-8 to take a 32-30 lead with 7:19 left in the opening half.

Goldey scored five straight points after this to grab a 35-32 advantage with 5:44 left on the clock.

Molly outscored Goldey-Beacom 9-5 for the rest of the first half to end with a 41-40 edge at halftime.

The Lightning take home a 94-86 victory!

GBC came out with a renewed fire in the early minutes of the second half by outscoring the Lions 28-12 to grab a 68-53 lead with 13:05 left in the game. Brian Blanchet, Junior forward Julian Williams, and Emarquis Jones gave the Lions’ defenders problems, scoring 19 of the 28 points.

Molloy roared back as they outscored Goldey 19-6 to pull the deficit to two points (74-72) with 6:38 remaining in the second half.

The Lightning would not lose their lead, as the team went on an 18-9 run to push the score to 92-81 with 59 seconds left in the game. GBC had the hot touch from the three-point line, as the team made four shots from there during that stretch.

Molloy outscored Goldey 5-2 in the remaining seconds of the game, but it wouldn’t matter as the Lightning still took home a 94-86 victory.
