The University of Delaware men’s basketball team upset the George Washington University Revolutionaries 70-58 on Wednesday. GW was 8-2 and 5-0 at home before UD handed them the loss tonight.
Senior guard Justyn Fernandez led the team in scoring in the win, with 27 points.
Two other Hens players scored in double digits in the victory: Sophomore forward Macon Emory (13) and Junior guard Christian Bliss (12).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (22-20) and assists (16-15).
UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 51% (25-45) and George Washington 29%(18-62). The Blue Hens also bested the Revolutionaries from the three-point line, with the team shooting 45%( 9-20) and GW shooting 29%(8-28). Delaware also outshot the Revolutionaries at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 85%(11-13), and GW 64%(14-22).

Delaware had the hot hand to start this game, as the team flew out to a 20-7 edge with 9:44 remaining in the opening half. Justyn Fernandez led the charge by scoring the team’s first 13 points in the game. He nailed three straight shots from the three-point line during that stretch.
George Washington stormed back by outscoring UD 22-11 to cut the deficit to two points (31-29) at the end of the first half.
UD takes home a 70-58 win!
The Revolutionaries stayed within striking distance through the first 12 minutes of the second half, trailing by just two points on five occasions—including 45–43 at the 8:29 mark.
Delaware wouldn’t lose its lead, going on a 13-5 run to grab a 58-48 advantage with 3:51 left in the game.
After that, Justyn Fernandez and Macon Emory would bring the win home for the Hens by scoring ten of the team’s final points to get a 70-58 victory over George Washington.
