The Delaware State University men’s basketball team earned its third win of the season on Saturday with a 75-72 overtime victory over its in-state rival, the University of Delaware Blue Hens.
Junior forward Ademar Santos led the team in scoring in the win, with 22 points.
Senior forward Miles Webb recorded a double-double in the game, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Two other DSU players who scored in double-digits were Sophomore guard Ponce James (21) and Senior guard Corey Perkins (13).
Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (34-30), fast-break points (22-7), points off of turnovers (25-16), turnovers (17-18), steals (12-6), assists (15-14), and rebounds (33-29).
DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 47%(27-58) and the Blue Hens shooting 45%(25-56).

The game was tied at 28 at the end of the first half.
The Route 1 Rivalry opened as a back-and-forth battle, with the score knotted four times in the first ten minutes. UD’s Justyn Fernandez capped the stretch by sinking a three-pointer to put the Hens ahead 15–12.
DSU punched right back by going on a 12-0 run to grab a 24-15 advantage with 4:33 left in the first half. Miles Webb led the charge, scoring seven of the 12 points.
Delaware outscored the Hornets 13-4 for the rest of the opening half to have the score tied at 28 heading into halftime.
Two halves are not enough, Blue Hens force the game to overtime.
In the first six minutes and 47 seconds of the second half, the Blue Hens were seeing the basket clearly by going on a 16-9 run to take a 44-37 lead at the 13:53 mark.
DSU stung right back by outscoring UD 11-4 to tie the game at 48 with 9:15 remaining. Ademar Santos drained two shots from the three-point line during this time.
The Hornets would build a five-point (58-53) lead with 5:13 left on the clock, when the team went on a 10-5 run.
Fast forward with two minutes and six seconds left in the game, where Ponce James nailed a three-pointer to give Delaware State a 63-59 edge.
Delaware outscored the Hornets 6-2 in the final minutes of the game to push the game into overtime with the score at 65. Christian Bliss sank the game-tying layup with 13 seconds left for the Hens.

Ponce James and Ademar Santos delivered when their team needed them the most as the duo scored eight of the team’s ten points to help lift DSU to a 75-72 victory over UD.
