The University of Delaware women’s basketball team improved to 5-2 on the season on Friday with a 70-64 overtime victory over the Colgate Raiders.
Junior center Ande’a Cherisier led the team in scoring in the win, with 17 points. She also recorded a double-double by collecting 15 rebounds.
Three other Hens players scored in double digits: sophomore guard Trinity Vance (11), Junior guard Safi Kolliegbo (12), and Freshman guard Kailah Correa (14).
UD had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (38-30), assists (9-8), and rebounds (50-39).
The Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 36%(26-72) and Colgate 35%(24-68).

The game would be tied at 12 after one quarter.
UD came out firing in the early minutes, building a 7–2 lead with 5:50 remaining in the period. Ande’a Cherisier and Trinity Vance led the charge, scoring all seven points on that run.
Colgate punched right back by scoring 12 straight points to grab a 12-7 advantage with 1:51 left in the first quarter.
Delaware ended the opening period by scoring five unanswered points to tie the game at 12. Safi Kolliegbo drained a three-pointer with five seconds left to tie the game for her team.
The Blue Hens lead by six at the end of the first half.
In the second quarter, the University of Delaware would find a steady rhythm as they outscored the Raiders 17-11 to head into halftime with a 29-23 lead. Safi Kolliegbo and Ande’a Cherisier made things difficult for the Colgate defenders, scoring ten of the Blue Hens’ 17 points.
Delaware trails by one at the end of the third quarter.
The Raiders came out with a renewed energy in the early minutes of the second half, as they went on an 11-2 run to grab a 34-31 advantage with 5:54 left in the third.
With 4:13 left in the third quarter, Ande’a Cherisier put the Hens ahead 35–34 with a layup.
Colgate outscored the UD 6-4 for the rest of the quarter to head into the fourth with a slim 40-39 edge.
Four quarters wouldn’t be enough; the Raiders push into overtime.
Delaware came out in the early minutes of the fourth strong, scoring eight straight points to grab a 47-40 advantage with 7:28 left in the game. Kailah Correa was on fire during this stretch, scoring four of the eight points.
Colgate outscored UD 13-6 for the rest of the fourth to send the game into overtime with the score at 53. Ella Meabon made the game-tying layup at the 1:53 mark.
UD takes home a 70-64 win in overtime!
Two players stepped up for the Blue Hens when they needed them the most, as that was Senior guard Ella Wanzer and Kailah Correa, who scored 13 of the team’s 17 points to give Delaware a 70-64 victory over Colgate. Correa made six free throw attempts in the overtime period.
