The Wilmington University men’s basketball team moved its record to 3-0 on Wednesday with an exciting double overtime 101-99 win over the Millersville University Marauders.
Sophomore forward Tre Hawkins led the team in scoring in the win with 22 points.
Sophomore guard Denim Perkins recorded a double-double in the game with 15 points and ten assists.
Three other Wilmington players who scored in double digits were Sophomore guard Jaylin Horsey (17), junior guard Akeem Taylor (21), and senior guard Justin Perez (10).
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, including bench points (19-18), points in the paint (50-46), points off of turnovers (27-26), turnovers (18-19), assists (17-16), and steals (15-13).
Wilmington also bested Millersville at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 35.0%(7-20), and the Marauders shot 34.8%(8-23).

The Wildcats started this game by jumping out to a quick 12-7 edge with 13:32 left in the opening period. Tre Hawkins and Junior guard Jaiden Guy led the charge during that time, scoring ten of the 12 points.
In the next five minutes and 28 seconds, Millersville came charging back, outscoring WilmU 22-10 to take a 25-20 advantage with 8:04 on the clock.
Fast forward to the 4:08 minute mark, where the Marauders’ lead ballooned to ten (34-24) with Day Waters drilling a three-point shot.
WilmU outscored Millersville 13-10 for the rest of the half to slice the deficit to 44-37.
Two halves are not enough. WilmU pushes the game into overtime.
Wilmington came out roaring in the early minutes of the second half, outscoring the Marauders 28-21 to tie the game at 65 with 8:11 left in the game.
At the 4:22 minute mark, Millersville grabbed an eight-point edge (75-67) when Aamir Hurst hit a three-pointer.
The Cats went on an 8-4 run in the latter minutes of the second half to tie the game up at 79. Jaylin Horsey hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in the game to tie the score at 79.
One overtime is not enough to crown a winner.
In the early minutes of overtime, the Marauders went on a 12-7 run to take an 87-84 lead with 2:16 left on the clock.
Wilmington’s secret weapon down the stretch was Akeem Taylor, who scored the team’s six points to give the team a 90-88 edge with 46 seconds left in the game.
Millersville hit two free throws in the last few seconds of the overtime period to tie the score at 90.
The Wildcats take home a 101-99 win!
Fast forward with ten seconds left in the game, Wilmington’s Denim Perkins would tie the game up at 99.
Perkins then would get a steal, which allowed Akeem Taylor to go down the lane to hit a layup as the game clock hit zero in the double overtime to give his team a 101-99 victory over Millersville.
