Game Recap:
Wilmington University takes home a 1-0 win!
Pitching was the star of the show in this game as the Lightning’s Caitlyn Burch and WilmU’s Freshman pitcher/outfielder Maddie Vollmar dominated the opposing hitters for seven innings. The two pitchers gave up a combined 12 hits during that time and stopped any momentum any of those baserunners had in those innings.
Then everything changed in the bottom of the eighth, and the Cats dug deep and found a spark to bring home the win.
Wilmington didn’t start the inning off too well, with two quick outs, but Freshman third baseman Haley Grygo earned a walk, which earned a walk, which lit a fire for her team moving forward.
Senior catcher Bella Barnes would come up to the plate next and hit a single to right field.
Freshman utility player Sydney Hatch would stride up to bat next, and she would end the game by hitting an RBI walk-off single to left field to give her team a 1-0 win and send them to the Super Regionals.
Pitching Recap:
In the most important game of the season, Maddie Vollmar brought her best stuff to the mound by pitching eight innings, giving nine hits, one walk, striking out three, and earning the win.
