Gunkel and Sheehan shine in Wilmington University’s sweep over Chestnut Hill

The Wilmington University softball team swept the Chestnut Hill College Griffins on Wednesday with a 10-0 win in the first game. The Cats also picked up a 3-1 victory in the second match.

Game Recap GM 1:

Wilmington University leads by four runs at the end of the second inning.

Freshman Utility player Sydney Hatch would get the Wildcats on the board first in this game, with a RBI single to right field in the bottom of the opening inning.

In the next inning, the WimU’s edge would grow when senior outfielder Tristyn Stewart hit a two-run single up the middle to expand her team’s lead to 3-0. Freshman third baseman Haley Grygo also pushed home a run with an RBI single to center field to give the Cats a 4-0 edge in the second.

WilmU takes home a 10-0 win!

Two innings later, Wilmington’s lead would widen further when they scored six runs on three hits and one error to take a 10-0 advantage.

Graduate student pitcher Delani Sheehan and freshman infielder Gracie Mabrey each hit a RBI single in the fourth.

Three runs in the inning also came from an error, a wild pitch, and a ground out.

Tristyn Stewart also stole home to score a run in the fourth.

Pitching Recap:

Senior pitcher Kylee Gunkel went five innings, gave up two hits, one walk, struck out two, and earned the win.

Game Recap GM 2:

Wilmington University takes home a 3-1 win!

The scoreboard was silent for three innings, but that would all change in the top of the fourth, where Chestnut Hill smoked a RBI triple to right field to grab a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats answered back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits and one error to take a 4-1 edge.

Tristyn Stewart and  Senior catcher Bella Barnes each had an RBI single in the inning. Haley Grygo also pushed home a run in the fifth with a Sac Fly.
