Wilmington University earns a sweep over Bridgeport

The Wilmington University baseball team swept the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Tuesday with a 4-1 win in the first game and an 8-5 victory in the second.

Game Recap GM 1:

Wilmington University takes a three-run lead at the end of the second inning.

The Wildcats lighted up the scoreboard first in this match, as Graduate student infielder Josearmando Diaz hit an RBI double to left center to give his team a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the opening inning.

In the second inning, Senior outfielder Kory Pritchard would push in a run with an RBI single to left center and then score himself a couple of plays on a dropped ball in the outfielder to give his team a 3-0 lead.

WilmU takes home a 4-1 win!

Bridgeport would score their first run of the game in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Senior outfielder AJ Tropiano helped seal a 4-1 win by pushing home a run with a Sac Fly in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Pitching Recap:

Wilmington University used three pitchers in the game, which included senior pitcher/third baseman Scott Borgmann, who went seven innings, gave up two hits, one run, one earned run, three walks, struck seven batters out, and earned the win.

Senior pitcher Dom Marotta earned the save in the game by going one inning, gave up one hit, and struck out one batter.

Game Recap GM 2:

Wilmington University leads by three runs at the end of the third inning.

The Purple Knights would strike first in the second game when the team would score by stealing home base and then with a Sac Fly to take a 2-0 edge in the opening inning.

Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Chase Fleming would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to right field.

Freshman pitcher/outfielder Zach Frame would give the Wildcats the lead in the second inning with a two-run double to right field to take the score to 3-2.

Redshirt junior outfielder Cam Trego and  Sophomore catcher Kyle Lowman increased Wilmington’s advantage to 5-2 in the third with each earning a RBI with a single.

The Wildcats take home an 8-5 victory!

Bridgeport would come storming back in the top of the fifth with two RBI doubles, and a single to tie the game up at five.

WilmU snatched the lead back in the bottom of the inning with Cam Trego going home on an error and Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Brandon Grygo pushing home a run with an RBI single to take the score to 7-5.

AJ Tropiano would score the last run of the game for the Cats in the sixth inning with a Sac Fly to seal an 8-5 win!

Wilmington University used three pitchers in the game, which included sophomore pitcher Yoshi Conti, who went 0.1 innings, gave up two hits, struck one batter out, and earned the win.

Junior pitcher/second baseman Zack Czarnecki went two innings, struck out three, and earned the save.
