The University of Delaware men’s basketball team made history on Monday becoming the lowest seed (12) to make the Coastal Athletic Association Tournament final with an 82-72 win over the top-seeded Towson Tigers. The Blue Hens will now take on the winner of the UNC Wilmington and Charleston Semifinal matchup in the CAA Final on Tuesday.
Senior guard Erik Timko led the team in scoring in the win with 15 points.
Five other Hens players scored in double digits: Senior forward John Camden (13), Freshman guard Izaiah Pasha (13), Junior guard Cavan Reilly (11), Senior guard Niels Lane (14), Sophomore guard Trent Middleton Jr. (14).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included fast-break points (17-13), steals (7-6), and assists (13-10).
UD also had the advantage in shooting, with the team boasting 55.1(27-49) and Towson 40.3(25-62). The Blue Hens also bested the Tigers from the three-point line, with the team shooting 45.0( 9-20) and Towson shooting 30.4(7-23). Delaware also outshot the Tigers at the free-throw line, with the team shooting 70.4(19-27), and Towson 65.2(15-23).

Delaware leads by four points at the end of the first half.
The game started with Towson jumping out to a 12-9 advantage with 14:02 remaining in the opening half.
The Hens would start to find a rhythm right after this by outscoring the Tigers 11-4 to take a 20-16 edge with 9:30 left in the first half. Trent Middleton Jr. and Erik Timko led the charge, scoring seven of the 11 points during the run.
Fast forward to the 7:04 minute mark, Dylan Williamson made a layup to give Towson the lead (22-20).
UD would end the opening period on a high note by outscoring the Tigers 16-10 to take a 36-32 advantage into halftime. Niels Lane and Cavan Reilly gave the Tigers defense problems by scoring 13 of the team’s 16 points.
Blue Hens take home an 82-72 win!
Delaware would come out on fire in the early minutes of the second half by going on a 13-6 run to grab a 49-38 edge with 15:18 left in the game. John Camden and Erik Timko were making baskets with ease during this time, scoring 11 of the team’s 13 points. Camden drained two shots from the three-point line.
Towson punched back by scoring four straight points to slice the deficit to seven points (49-42) with 13:03 remaining in the second half.
Fast forward to the 6:52 minute mark, where John Camden hit a layup to give the Hens a 12-point lead (63-51).
In the next six minutes and nine seconds, the Tigers would start finding their shots, as they outscored UD 19-12 to close the deficit to five points (75-70) with 43 seconds left in the game.
The Blue Hens would seal the win by draining seven free throw shots to take an 82-72 victory and move on to the CAA Championship Finals.
