Wilmington University dominates Penn St. Brandywine in 69-34 victory

The Wilmington University women’s basketball team earned their first victory over the season on Monday with a dominating 69-34 win over Penn St. Brandywine.

Freshman center TyKeisha Hill, and junior guard Armani Bell-Jackson led the team in scoring in the win with 16 points.

Graduate student forward Jasmine McDuffie also recorded double-digits in the game with 12 points.

WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, including bench points (33-2), fast-break points (8-0), points in the paint (34-10), second-chance points (18-4), points off of turnovers (19-14), assists (15-8), rebounds (65-47), and blocks (6-3).

Wilmington University also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 36.1%(26-72) and Penn St. Brandywine shooting 16.7%(12-72). The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 33.3%(7-21), and Brandywine shot 25.0%(5-20).

The Wildcats found the basket easily in the opening period and took an 11-3 edge into the second quarter. Rebounding was key to WilmU’s lead, with the team outrebounding Penn St. Brandywine 20-13.

The Wildcats lead by 25 points at the end of the first half.

In the second quarter, the trio of Jasmine McDuffie, TyKeisha Hill, and Armani Bell-Jackson put the hammer down on Brandywine by scoring 16 of the Cats’ 20 points to head to halftime with a 31-6 lead.

Wilmington had the three-pointer shot falling for them in the second, as they sunk three of their six shots.

TyKeisha Hill and Armani Bell-Jackson put on a show in the third quarter by scoring 13 of Wilmington’s 19 points to give their team a 50-16 edge heading into the fourth.
