Tre Hawkins sinks two free throws late to lift Wilmington University to a 77-76 win over Felician

The Wilmington University men’s basketball team earned their sixth victory of the season on Saturday with a 77-76 win over the Felician University Golden Falcons.

Jaylin Horsey led the team in scoring in the win with 24 points.

Three other Wilmington players who scored in double digits in the win were Freshman forward Tre Hawkins (15), Manir Waller (15), and Junior guard Justin Perez (15).

WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, including points off of turnovers (28-21), steals (9-7), and turnovers (17-26).

 The Wildcats were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 32.0%(8-25), and the Golden Falcons shot 10.0% (1-20).

Wilmington University trails by seven points at the end of the first half.

The Wildcats would start the game the game jumping out to a 6-2 advantage with 18:21 remaining in the opening period. Manir Waller and Freshman guard Denim Perkins would score all six points during that time.

Starting at the 17:27 minute mark, Felician struck back by going on a 19-9 run to grab a 21-15 edge with 11:08 left in the first half.

WilmU would find a rhythm shortly after that by outscoring the Golden Falcons 14-8 to take a 29-28 lead with 5:12 remaining in the opening period. Justin Perez and Jaylin Horsey each hit a shot from the three-point line during this time.

Felician would end the first half strong by going on a 13-6 run to take a 41-34 edge into halftime.

WilmU takes home a 77-76 win!

The Wildcats would bring a different energy to the court in the early minutes of the second half, as they outscored the Golden Falcons 20-14 to slice the deficit to one point (55-54) with 9:04 left in the game. Manir Waller and Jaylin Horsey gave the Felician defense trouble by scoring 13 of the team’s 20 points.

Three minutes and 48 seconds later, Wilmington would grab a three-point lead (67-64) when Justin Perez hit a layup.

Felician would strike back and take a 74-71 edge with 1:54 left in the second half.

Manir Waller and Tre Hawkins would sink back-to-back layups to give the Cats a 75-74 lead with 14 seconds remaining in the game.

The Golden Falcons would hit two free throw shots to take a 76-75 advantage with seven seconds left in the game.

Hawkins would come up clutch for WilmU by draining two free throw shots to seal a 77-76 victory over Felician.
