Robert Smith records 22 points in Delaware State’s 93-51 victory over Cheyney (PA)

The Delaware State University men’s basketball team earned their second win of the season on Saturday by defeating the Cheyney University Wolves 93-51.

Senior guard Robert Smith led the Hornets in scoring in the win with 22 points.

Senior guard Martaz Robinson recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior guard Corey Perkins also recorded double-digits in the win, scoring ten points.

Senior forward Alston Andrews was locked on the boards all day, collecting ten rebounds.

Delaware State had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (54-18), fast-break points (21-3), turnovers (13-24), blocks (5-2), steals (12-6), assists (25-10), and rebounds (54-31).

DSU also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 47.6(39-82) and Cheyney shooting 36.5 (19-52). The Hornets were also the better team at the three-point line in this game, as the team shot 38.1%(8-21), and the Wolves shot 37.5(6-16). Delaware State also outshot Cheyney at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 53.8(7-13), and the Wolves shot 38.9(7-18).

Robert Smith came out blazing to start this game, scoring 18 of the DSU’s 40 points in the opening half to give them a 40-24 edge.

The Hornets take home a 93-51 victory!

Fast forward to the 12:49 minute mark in the second half, where Martaz Robinson drained a three-pointer to give DSU a 32-point advantage (63-31).

Close to seven minutes later, Robinson would push the lead to 40 points (81-41), when he drove in the paint to get a layup to go in.

DSU would score 12 more points in the second half to seal a 93-51 win over the Wolves.
