Goldey-Beacom clinches a berth in the CACC tournament with a 7-1 win over Bloomfield

The Goldey-Beacom men’s soccer team clinched a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament on Saturday with a 7-1 victory over the Bloomfield College Bears.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom leads by six goals at the end of the first half.

The Lightning struck fast in this match, as senior defender Colby Niggebrugge headed the ball into the net at the second-minute mark to grab his team a 1-0 advantage.  Junior midfielder Lucas Fernandes assisted on Niggebrugge’s goal.

Two minutes later, Fernandes earned his second assist in the game, when he found freshman defender Daniel Granado, who headed the ball in for a score to give his team a 2-0 lead.

 Not even a minute later, Daniel Granado pushed in his second goal of the day to give GBC a 3-0 edge. Fernandes assisted Granado on the score.

Senior forward  Pedro Maia would join the scoring party, as he found the back of the net around the eight-minute mark. Fernandes earned his fourth assist in the match on Maia’s goal.

Fast-forward to the 38th minute, when junior forward Emanuel Bustos scored his first goal of the game, pushing the score to 5-0. Senior defender Cameron Michalak assisted on Busto’s goal.

In the last minute of the first Bustos would be at again, when he found the net to give his team a 6-0 lead. Freshman midfielder Ogün Ünal assisted on Bustos’s goal.

The Lightning takes home a 7-1 win!

Bloomfield finally lit up the scoreboard at the 74th-minute mark, when Cosme Fierro Villega found the back of the net to slice the deficit to 6-1.

Freshman defender Koshis Gurung would score a goal in the late minutes of the second half to seal a 7-1 victory over the Bears.

The standouts in the game for the Lightning were Colby Niggebrugge, Lucas Fernandes, Daniel Granado, Pedro Maia, Emanuel Bustos, Cameron Michalak, Ogün Ünal, Koshis Gurung, and Freshman goalkeeper Pedro Montanes.
