Wilmington University earns a Friday sweep of Saint Leo

Wilmington University would hold a one-run lead after the first inning.

The Wildcats would get on the board first in the second game of the day, as the team would score one run on three hits to take a 1-0 lead.

After a single and then a sac bunt, junior outfielder Taylor Gillis would step up to the plate and knock an RBI single to right center to give her team a 1-0 edge.

Wildcats take home a 3-2 win!

In the next two innings, the Lions would score two runs to grab a 2-1 advantage at the end of the third.

Fast forward to the top of the seventh inning, where WilmU’s lineup started to cook again, as the team scored two runs on two hits and an error to gain a 3-2 lead.

Senior Sara Miller would get the scoring started in the inning, as she would hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game at two.

Five plays later, Tristyn Stewart would score on a throwing error by Saint Leo’s pitcher to take the score to 3-2.

Pitching Recap:

Redshirt sophomore starting pitcher Delani Sheehan kept the Lions batters in check for most of the game, as she went seven innings and gave up four hits, two runs, three walks, and three strikeouts.
