The University of Delaware softball team would split their two games on Friday as the team took a 2-0 win versus the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders in their first game, and lost their second 2-0 to Florida Gulf Coast University.
Game stats:
RBIs: Sophomore designated player Sydney Shaffer and freshman infielder Gianna Costaro would lead the team with one RBI.
Runs: Junior infielder Chloe Blantz and Costaro led the team in runs scored with one.
Hits: The University of Delaware had three hits in the game Shaffer, Coataro, and Blantz led the team in hits in the win with one.
Pitching: On the pitching side, Graduate Student starting pitcher Emily Winburn went seven innings, gave up seven hits, two walks, three strikeouts, and hit one batter and earned the win.

Blue Hens take the one-run lead at the end of the first inning.
UD’s starting pitcher, Emily Winburn, was ready for the Middle Tennessee State hitters in the top of the first, as she only gave up a double in the inning.
Then, in the bottom of the inning, it was Delaware’s turn to hit, and the lineup would get two quick outs, but their fortunes would turn around when Chloe Blantz earned a walk to get on base. Blantz would follow up that play by stealing second base. Sydney Shaffer would be the next batter up, and she would hit a single to center field, which would score Blantz to give the Hens a 1-0 lead.
Delaware takes home a 2-0 victory!
The University of Delaware’s pitcher, Emily Winburn, would continue to roll in this game, as in the next three innings, she gave up only three hits with no runs.
After the first inning, UD’s lineup would be silenced for the next two innings but would wake up in the fifth in a very big way.
Gianna Costaro would be the first batter up for the Hens in the bottom of the fifth and would blast the ball to left-center field for a home run to push her team’s edge to 2-0.
Winburn would continue to dominate the MTSU hitters, as she would give up three more hits and seal the Blue Hens 2-0 victory!
