Restrepo & Larsen each score two goals in Wilmington University’s 5-2 win over Dominican (N.Y.)

The Wilmington University women’s soccer team earned their fifth win of the season on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over the Dominican University Chargers.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were redshirt sophomore midfielder Manuela Restrepo, redshirt freshman forward Evelyn Payne , junior forward Alyssa Ruggeri, junior forward Emilie Larsen , junior goalkeeper Mio Nakajima, and freshman goalkeeper Arianna Myers.

Restrepo had five shots, three shots at the goal, scored two goals, and had two assists in the win.

Payne had six shots, four shots at the goals, and scored one goal in the game.

Ruggeri had two shots, two shots at the goal, and one assist in the victory.

Larsen had three shots, three shots at the goal, and scored two goals in the win.

Nakajima allowed one goal in 82 minutes and 22 seconds and had one save in the game.

Myers allowed one goal in seven minutes and 38 seconds and had three saves in the victory.

Wilmington University ends the first half with a 3-1 lead over Dominican.

The scoreboard in this matchup did not stay silent for long, as the Chargers’ Olivia Gouldsbury would knock in the first goal of the game at the 6:37 minute mark to give her team a 1-0 advantage.

Five minutes later, the Wildcats would answer back with a score of their own, as Manuela Restrepo would get the ball past the Dominican’s goalkeeper from the right side of the box to tie the game at one.

Restrepo would continue to have the hot foot as she rebounded Alyssa Ruggeri’s missed shot and then blasted the ball right in the net for another goal to give Wilmington a 2-1 lead at the 16-minute mark.

Eighteen minutes later, Restrepo would be back in a scoring play once again, but this time she would find her teammate Evelyn Payne, who found the back of the net to push the Wildcats edge to 3-1 at the end of the first half.

Wilmington would outshoot the Chargers 13-3 in the first half of the game.

The Wildcats take home a 5-2 victory!

Fast forward to the 59-minute mark in the second half, where Emilie Larsen would rebound her own miss and push it in for the goal to extend WilmU’s lead to 4-1.

Twelve minutes later, Manuela Restrepo would find a charging Larsen down the middle, who would knock the ball past the Chargers goalie to expand the advantage to 5-2.

Dominican would score a goal at the 90th-minute mark, but the Cats would still take home a 5-2 win.
