Blue Hens earn third victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Saint Francis

The University of Delaware women’s soccer team picked up their third victory of the 2023 season on Thursday with a 4-1 win over the Saint Francis University Red Flash. With the win, the Blue Hens surpassed their win total from last year, which was two.

The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were senior midfield/defender Katie Hackley, senior midfielder Lea Panagiotidis , senior forward/defender Kristin Wolf, sophomore forward Izzy Lane, senior goalkeeper Mia Reed, and sophomore goalkeeper Odaliana Gomez.

Hackley had two shots, one shot at the goal, and scored one goal in the win.

Panagiotidis had two shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal in the game.

Wolf had one shot, one shot at the goal, one assist, and scored one goal in the victory.

Lane had two shots, two shots at the goal, one goal, and one assist in the game.

Reed allowed zero goals in 45 minutes and had one save in the game.

Gomez allowed one goal in 45 minutes and had one save in the game.

Blue Hens have a flurry of goals to take a 3-0 lead in the first half

Delaware was roaring to go in this one, as the scoring happened fast for the team in the early minutes of this game. Lea Panagiotidis would get the party started by getting a goal at the seventh-minute mark to give her team a 1-0 lead.

A couple minutes later, Katie Hackley would find the back of the net to give the Hens a 2-0 advantage at the ten-minute mark.

Eight minutes later, Kristin Wolf received a cross from her teammate Izzy Lane and then blasted the ball into the net to push UD’s lead to 3-0.

The Blue Hens’ defense was strong in the first half, as Saint Francis was only able to fire off three shots.

Delaware adds one more goal to seal a 4-1 win!

The scoring would continue for UD in the second half, as Izzy Lane would receive a pass from her teammate Kristin Wolf and Izzy did the rest by getting the ball in for the score to give her team a 4-0 lead at the 64-minute mark.

The Red Flash would score their first goal of the game around the 72-minute mark, but that would be all the Delaware defense would allow, as the team took home a 4-1 victory.
