University of Delaware football team are rolling as the team won their second straight game in dominating fashion as the team beat Cornell 27-10 on Saturday at Delaware Stadium.
The Blue Hens have scored 64 points in their two game winning streak.
Fun little fact thanks to UD athletics communications team, Blue Hens have now scored a point in 230 straight home games going all the way back to 1983.
The offensive standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were redshirt junior quarterback Pat Kehoe, redshirt senior wide receiver Joe Walker and senior running back Kani Kane.
Kehoe went 14 for 29 with 254 yards passing, one passing touchdown, rushed for 23 yards and one rushing touchdown in the win.
The Blue Hens quarterback made some history in the win as Kehoe is the first player in Delaware history to throw for over 200 yards in each of his three career starts.
Walker had a big day receiving as he had six catches for 154 yards and one receiving touchdown in the win.
The redshirt senior also made some history in this game as Walker became the first Blue Hen to have a 200-yard passing game, a 100-yard rushing game, and a 100-yard receiving game in their career.
Kane had 18 carries for 65 yards and one rushing touchdown in the win.
On defensive side, the standouts for the Hens were redshirt senior defensive back Malcolm Brown, redshirt senior linebacker Troy Reeder, freshman linebacker Drew Nickles, senior linebacker Armen Ware and redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Caleb Ashworth.
Brown led the team in tackles with 11 total tackles and one tackle for a loss.
Reeder had eight tackles, 0.5 sacks and 0.5 tackles for a loss.
Nickles had four tackles, 0.5 sacks and 0.5 tackles for a loss.
Ware had three tackles, one sack and one tackle for a loss.
Ashworth had one sack and one tackle for a loss.
Cornell Scores First In First Quarter
Cornell was first with the ball in the game and they started at their own 25 yard line.
The player who they leaned on in their first drive was running back Harold Coles who had 28 yards rushing.
The drive led to a 28 yard successful field goal which put Cornell on top of Delaware 3-0 with 8:55 left in the first quarter.
The Delaware defense stifled Cornell’s offense for the rest of the quarter as the Hens offense came alive in the late minutes of the first quarter.
On the last drive of the first quarter, Hens started at their own 22 yard line with 2:56 remaining in the quarter.
The redshirt junior quarterback Pat Kehoe led the Hens on this drive as he threw for 56 yards which included a 14 yard touchdown pass to redshirt senior wide receiver Joe Walker.
Kehoe’s first touchdown of the game put the Blue Hens ahead of Cornell 7-3 as the first quarter ended.
Kehoe Continues To Impress
In Delaware’s third drive in the second quarter, the team put some more cushion behind the lead they had.
The drive was led by Hens quarterback Kehoe who threw for 47 yards on the drive which included a 39 yard pass to wide receiver Walker.
Kehoe also rushed for a 11 yards which included a five yard touchdown run that made the score 14-3 Delaware.
In third quarter both teams made adjustments on defense as neither offense was able to reach the end zone in that quarter.
That would all change in the fourth quarter as both offenses came out swinging again.
Hens Put Up 13 Points In the Fourth Quarter
Hens had the ball at beginning of fourth quarter at Cornell’s 15 yard line which this time the scoring came from the running game.
Hens quarterback Kehoe rushed 10 yards on the scoring drive and senior running back Kani Kane had five yards rushing which included a three yard touchdown run.
Kane’s three yard touchdown gave Blue Hens a 21-3 lead with 12:47 remaining in the game.
The Blue Hens next scoring drive started at their own 29 with 9:43 left in the game.
Kehoe continue to stay hot as he threw for 51 yards on the drive which included a 41 yard pass to his wide receiver Walker.
Redshirt senior kicker Frank Raggo hit a 40 yard field goal try to put the Hens up 24-3 with 6:54 left in the game.
Delaware’s next scoring drive started at Cornell’s 31 yard line with 5:58 left in the game.
In this drive it was all about the running backs as Kane and redshirt junior Andre Robinson combined for 30 yards rushing on the drive.
The rushing attack led to a successful 33 yard field goal try from Hens kicker Raggo which put the Hens up 27-3 with 4:06 left in the game.
Cornell was not finished just yet as their quarterback Mike Catanese hit his wide receiver Davy Lizana for the nine yard touchdown to trim the lead to 27-10 with 26 seconds left.
It was too little to late as the Hens ran out the clock and sealed a 27-10 home win against Cornell.
Hens (2-1) face a tough challenge next week as the team heads to North Dakota to face powerhouse and reigning FCS Champions North Dakota State on September 22nd at 2 PM ET.
